Police officer injured in crash on U.S 95 traffic

An officer was hospitalized and traffic was backed up Friday afternoon after the police cruiser was rear-ended on U.S Highway 95, near Las Vegas Boulevard, Las Vegas police said.

The officer was assisting the Nevada Highway Patrol on a call at 2:36 p.m. He had his emergency lights on while driving on southbound U.S Highway 95 near Las Vegas Boulevard, police said.

When the officer slowed down while changing lanes, his car was hit by a truck. The officer lost control and hit a wall, police said.

The officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to University Medical Center. The truck’s driver remained on the scene and was not suspected of being impaired, police said.

Rush-hour traffic was backed for at least two hours while police investigated.
