Juvenile probation officer fatally shoots man, turns gun on himself, officials say

Updated December 12, 2025 - 8:13 pm

A Clark County juvenile probation officer fatally shot a Las Vegas man and then himself during an altercation Thursday on the city’s northwest side, officials said.

Officers received a report at about 5:30 p.m. of a shooting at a residence in the 4500 block of North Vogue Street, near West Craig Road and North Tenaya Way, the Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release.

Arriving officers found two men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, according to the release. One was pronounced dead on scene and the other died after being transported to a nearby hospital.

The Clark County coroner’s office on Friday identified the men as Daniel Sheahan and Eddie Wide III. Sheahan, 36, died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide; Wide died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, the coroner said.

A Clark County spokesperson said in a statement Friday that Wide, 37, of Henderson, had been employed as a juvenile probation officer since 2014.

“We are shocked and saddened by this tragic incident,” Chief Communications Officer Jennifer Cooper said in an emailed statement. “Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones impacted by this tragedy. Support and resources are being made available through the Resiliency Center and the County’s Employee Assistance Program.”

In a press release that didn’t identify the gunman or victim by name, police said homicide detectives learned one of the men was visiting a friend when the other entered the residence without permission.

“Words were exchanged between the two before the male who had entered without permission” pulled out a gun and shot the other man multiple times, according to Metro. The man then shot himself.

An investigation remained ongoing, police said.
