Traditional Vietnam dishes found in downtown Las Vegas

A taste of Vietnam has come to downtown Las Vegas.

In a corner under the Juhl condos, Le Pho Vietnamese Kitchen, 353 Bonneville Ave., opened in May.

The long-awaited restaurant is the brainchild of three business partners — Dan Coughlin, the owner of Le Thai; chef Khai Vu; and businesswoman Puoy Premsrirut.

Vu, who moved to the United States when he was 11, was inspired by his grandmother’s cooking to create some of the dishes at the new restaurant.

There are variations of its signature dish, pho. Patrons can try the oxtail ($14), ribeye ($10) or the house special ($12), which includes ribeye, tendon, tripe and meatball.

The restaurant also has an assortment of spring rolls for $7, such as the traditional with shrimp, pork and vermicelli noodles, the vegan roll with tofu, mushrooms and bean sprouts or the Le Pho Roll with five spiced pork, basil and lettuce.

Other appetizers include Da Nang fish cake ($8), which is a deep-friend fish, dill and scallion cake, or grandma’s grilled pork ($9), which is marinated pork cheek.

Guests can also stray away from pho and try other entrees such as the ginger chicken with rice ($10), the duck noodle bowl ($15) or a Vietnamese crepe ($15) that comes with slices of pork and shrimp.

Le Pho is open from 11 a.m to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
