Barrick Gold Corp., a Canadan based mining company, is operating Cortez Pipeline Mine, Cortez Hills and Gold Rush mines in the Cortez Trend, located around 70 miles southwest of Elko.Barrick will spend a company-record $200 million to $220 million in 2012 to explore North American ore vein, mostly in Nevada. Gold averaged $1,572 an ounce in 2011 and surged toward $1,800 an ounce in mid-September, up from just $280 in 2000.
