From 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, individuals of every age can try out the new 36,000-square-foot SkyView YMCA, 3050 E. Centennial Parkway, for free. There will be family activities, bounce houses, classes and the debut of Les Mills BODYPUMP. Grand opening prizes are set to include Y memberships, swim lessons, sports items and an iPad2. Anyone who joins the Y on Saturday can enroll with no joining fee and receive a free program, a $150 value.

Henderson-based CARES Coalition seeks homes for abandoned pets, offers other services

Along with humans, animals seem to be feeling the pains of a struggling economy as pet owners have to give up or turn loose the family friend they can no longer afford. But Susan Lepiarz Musko is trying to care for as many animals as possible with her organization, Companion Animal Rescue Education Spa Coalition. “We are a nonprofit animal rescue group that puts animals into foster homes,” Musko said. “We family-train them to get to know their needs and personalities really well so we can best match them with the proper family. We focus on making a forever family match.”

Options slim for living with moody, ill alcoholic

My other half and I moved to Vegas Valley 10 years ago. He was diagnosed with AIDS and is taking meds and doing great on them — undetectable and his numbers are awesome. Here’s my thing: His attitude slowly but surely is going through the roof even though he should be happy about his T-cell numbers and great checkups. I know that taking all those meds is affecting his thinking and attitude. There is no talking to this man about anything without him saying and causing arguments, then saying the other person is starting it.
