Coronado High School offensive lineman Donovan Outlaw committed to play football at UNLV. He will be a member of the Rebels’ 2016 recruiting class.
UNLV offensive lineman Ron Scoggins was a potential academic casualty in his freshman year and was forced to sit out practices as his grades slipped. But when his former Bishop Gorman coach, Tony Sanchez, was hired to lead the Rebels, Scoggins found the spark he needed to earn his way onto the dean’s list.

Glenn Carano, 59, will be inducted into the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame on Friday at Orleans Arena. Carano, the father of former MMA star Gina Carano, is being inducted alongside boxer Mike Tyson, NASCAR driver Kurt Busch, golf pro Joe Kelly and rodeo coach Ric Griffith.
Former UNLV defensive back Sidney Hodge, a Palo Verde High School graduate, is following his wife, Natiyah, who comes from a military family, into the service. He is finishing Army military intelligence classes and will graduate July 10 before heading to Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas.
UNLV’s season opener at Northern Illinois on Sept. 5 will be televised by CBS Sports Network, and will be at 4:30 p.m. PDT. It is the first game in the coach Tony Sanchez era.
