Law enforcement and emergency responders from throughout the Las Vegas Valley participated in an “active shooter” drill Wednesday at Shadow Ridge High School to ensure they are prepared for a worst-case scenario.
The students — a male and a female, both 17 — were taken into custody at Palo Verde High School in Las Vegas and Desert Rose High School in North Las Vegas. Police say neither of the students had made threats.
Police said the student called one of the district offices and made the threat, after which police were able to track him down and arrest him without incident Wednesday evening in a public place.
The school district, which hasn’t had a fatal shooting on campus since 1990, uses layers of armed officers, surveillance cameras and student and staff training to help keep its 358 district campuses safe.
