Ex-NBA commissioner David Stern will speak at gaming expo in Las Vegas

Former National Basketball Association Commissioner David Stern, a supporter of legalized sports wagering, will address next month’s Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas, the American Gaming Association announced Wednesday.

Stern will discuss the future of sports betting and its impact on major professional sports, as well as how the NBA’s expansion parallels the casino gaming industry in an onstage conversation with AGA President and CEO Geoff Freeman.

The Global Gaming Expo, known in the industry as G2E, meets at the Sands Expo Center Sept. 26-29. More than 25,000 gaming industry leaders are expected to attend.

The commissioner for 30 years, Stern in October joined current Commissioner Adam Silver in calling for legalized sports wagering nationwide.

“I’m with Commissioner Silver,” Stern said at the time. “There should be federal legislation that says, ‘Let’s go all the way’ and have betting on sports. It’s OK. It’s going to be properly regulated.”
