Nevada among 9 states involved in Albertsons hacking

WYOMING — Albertsons officials say their 10 stores in Wyoming were hacked in June and July, but they have not determined whether any cardholder data was stolen.

The data breach affected Casper’s two Albertsons locations, on Second Street and on CY Avenue.

The grocery chain is continuing to investigate the unauthorized access to credit and debit card data, which occurred from June 22 to July 17, said Christine Wilcox, vice president of communications and public affairs for Albertsons.

The store has not found any evidence that card data was misused.

Albertsons stores in Southern California, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and southern Utah also experienced data breaches.

Several of Albertsons’ subsidiary stores were hacked, including ACME Markets, Jewel-Osco stores and Star Markets stores.

The large-scale data breach comes on the heels of two just like it in 2013.

Target said about 40 million of its customers may have had their debit or credit card data stolen. TJX Companies, which includes T.J.Maxx and Marshalls, reported that data for 46 million cards may have been breached.

Albertsons is working with its third-party IT services provider, Supervalu, to investigate the scope of the data breach and prevent it from happening again.

The supermarket said on Aug. 15 that the data threat had been eliminated and that customers could safely swipe their debit and credit cards at Albertsons stores again.

Albertsons is offering its customers one year of free consumer identity protection services through AllClear ID. Customers do not need to enroll to access the services at abacquisition.allclearid.com.
