Las Vegas police investigating homicide in east valley

The suspicious death of a man found in the east valley Thursday evening has been ruled a homicide, Las Vegas police say.

Officers were checking on someone on Meikle Lane, near Nellis and Lake Mead boulevards, about 4 p.m., because a resident reported what might be blood on the sidewalk outside.

As of 7 p.m., officers had not yet been inside the apartment, homicide Lt. Ray Steiber said, but the resident who called police had gone in and found a man dead.

With the preliminary investigation underway, police weren’t yet sure what they were dealing with, Steiber said. By 9:30 p.m., the death had been officially ruled a homicide.

The area was blocked off until late Thursday evening. Detectives with the violent crimes unit initially investigated, and then homicide detectives took over.
