Man shot, killed by Las Vegas police named

A man who was shot and killed by police Monday after brandishing a weapon was identified Tuesday.

Ronald James Morrison, 52, was shot by three Las Vegas police officers about 3 p.m. outside the Ross Dress for Less store, 2420 E. Desert Inn Road, near Eastern Avenue.

Morrison, of Las Vegas, was suspected of shooting a man shortly before his confrontation with police.

The victim in the earlier shooting had been struck in the hand and was expected to recover.

Police said Morrison refused their commands and brandished a weapon from his waistband.

The officers' names will be released 48 hours after the shooting, per department policy.

The officers have been placed on paid administrative leave.

Morrison had limited contact with local police. He had been arrested once by Las Vegas police on a DUI charge in 2009.
