Police investigate fatal shooting near Owens and Eastern avenues

A Las Vegas man was arrested in connection with a fatal shooting near the intersection of Owens and Eastern avenues on Thursday night.

Las Vegas police were called to the scene at the 1500 block of North Eastern about 8:15 p.m. after a driver traveling on Owens saw a body on the road.

The initial investigation by homicide detectives found the dead man had an argument with his roommate, who was later identified as Charles Redd Jr.

Detectives believe the man and Redd were walking in the area, where the dispute escalated and Redd shot the victim.

Police found a shell casing on the ground near the dead man, who police believe was in his late 40s. Police did not find Redd at the scene, but they found him later and detained him.

Redd is currently in the Clark County Detention Center where he faces charges of murder with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
