Police seek 5 children who ran away from Child Haven
June 11, 2013 - 9:26 pm
Las Vegas police are looking for five children who went missing Tuesday afternoon.
The children, who are all siblings, were staying at the county’s emergency shelter for children, Child Haven, on Pecos Road and Bonanza Road. They went missing about 2 p.m. and were last seen about 4 p.m. in the area of Cheyenne Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard, roughly 10 miles from Child Haven, according to police.
The missing children are:
- Demetri Nicholas, 7, was last seen wearing a black shirt, green swim trunks and black shoes
- Sarah Nicholas, 9, was last seen wearing a purple shirt and pink shorts.
- Luchiano Nicholas, 11, was last seen wearing red swim trunks and black and white shoes
- Violet Bimbo-Nicholas, 13
- Savannah Nicholas, 14
Police believe that someone aided the children, described as “repeat runaways” by police.
Speaking in general terms, Clark County Family Services spokeswoman Kristi Jourdan said that when a child wants to leave Child Haven, staff try to redirect them, and that can include stepping in front of them and giving them options. Jourdan declined to provide the specifics of what happened in this case.
“We followed protocol,” she said.
As of 10 p.m. Tuesday night, Las Vegas police had not located the children.
