Trail of blood leads to suspect

A man was arrested Thursday evening in a shooting that left a victim in the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head, according to Las Vegas police.

Jeffrey Allen Hurt, 24, faces charges of robbery and attempted murder. He was arrested after a trail of blood led police from the scene of the shooting to his apartment, one block away.

Robbery and gang units responded to the 1800 block of J Street Wednesday afternoon and found Melvin Spencer shot twice, in his shoulder and above his ear.

He is in good condition, according to hospital officials.

Spencer told police that he and his girlfriend drove to an apartment complex to give a ride to Hurt, whom he met a week earlier.

Hurt and another man approached the car, pulled out guns and demanded money, saying “This is a jack!,” Spencer told police according to the arrest report.

Spencer was shot as he tried to confront Hurt, and again as he drove away, according to the report.

Two handguns were found in a laundry basket in Hurt’s home, one of which was reported stolen.
