Two arrested in stabbing at Strip hotel

Two people were arrested in a Strip hotel stabbing Saturday morning.

Las Vegas police said Trent Wilcox, 25, and Carlos Heredia-Avalos, 23, stabbed a man several times in the elevator of The Hotel at Mandalay Bay.

The man and his wife were returning to their hotel room about 2 a.m. when Wilcox and Heredia-Avalos got on the elevator and were immediately confrontational, the victim’s wife told police.

She told police Wilcox and Heredia-Avalos tried to intimidate them and swore at her. The suspects got out of the elevator, but then got back inside and said they would follow the couple to their room, the police report said.

Wilcox put the man in a chokehold while Heredia-Avalos began stabbing the man with a knife, the report said. Heredia-Avalos accidentally stabbed Wilcox a few times during the struggle, the report said.

The victim’s wife pushed the emergency button on the elevator, and hotel security arrested the suspects, the report said.

The man was taken to University Medical Center. Police said that he was severely injured, but his lungs were not punctured. He was released from the hospital.

The man’s wife told police the suspects were drunk “punks,” the report said.

Police said the incident was recorded by surveillance cameras.

Wilcox and Heredia-Avalos were booked at the Clark County jail on charges of attempted murder.
