Las Vegas woman arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting boyfriend inside car

A woman was arrested Monday morning in connection to the death of her boyfriend in the Northeast Valley, Metro police reported.

Cheryl Rheamount, 35, is suspected of shooting her boyfriend inside a car Saturday evening at about 7:30 p.m. near Judson Avenue and Dolly Lane.

According to a police news release, a woman said a female knocked on her door on East Lake Mead Boulevard and said her boyfriend had been shot and asking her to call police. Upon arrival, officers were told by Rheamount that her boyfriend was in a nearby vehicle.

The victim, who has not been identified pending notification of next of kin, was still in the car. Rescue crews pulled him from the driver’s seat and took him to University Medical Center, where he later died.

Metro homicide detective Sgt. Matthew Sanford said the resident who called police said that the woman mentioned getting into a fight with her boyfriend in the car.

“We don’t know what the argument was; if there was any kind of self-defense issue,” he said. “(We) don’t know anything about that because we’re still investigating.”

Sanford said the man might have been shot while driving and lost control of the car, winding up in a vacant lot near Judson.

Officers took Rheamount into custody, he said.
