A man police said used stolen construction equipment to batter a house Tuesday morning in the western Las Vegas Valley was taken into custody early Wednesday morning.
Metropolitan Police Department officers cordoned off an area with crime scene tape about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Ducharme Avenue and Scherer Street.
Police said they were searching for a man who used a Bobcat construction vehicle Monday night or early Tuesday to push a vehicle into a home where his estranged wife lives near Cimarron Road and Westcliff Drive.
The response ended shortly after 8:30 a.m. when officers entered a home on the 200 block of Null Lane and determined the suspect was not inside, Metro investigations Lt. Nick Farese said.
The man returned to the home Tuesday evening and refused to leave, according to Metropolitan Police Lt. David Gordon.
SWAT and crisis negotiators were requested at 8 p.m., and the man was taken into custody about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Gordon said homeowners in the immediate area were given the opportunity to evacuate, and some chose to shelter in place inside their homes.
The home is near Walter Johnson Junior High School, 7701 Ducharme Ave., and caused the school to put in place “a soft lockdown” on Tuesday morning, according to David Roddy, a Clark County School District spokesman. Students arriving for classes at the school were seen running into the building after being dropped off.
