Man wanted after fatal North Las Vegas hit-and-run posts photo of injuries on social media

The man North Las Vegas police named as a suspect after a fatal hit-and-run crash Saturday reportedly posted a selfie on social media shortly after the wreck, police said Thursday.

The photo of the suspect, Qaadir Isaam Amin II, depicts blood on his face and what looks like a gash on the right side of his neck — injuries authorities said he may have sustained from the crash. Police also said Thursday the passenger who was in Amin’s car during the fatal wreck may have been injured as well, and officials suggested the passenger’s wounds may be more serious.

“We have evidence the passenger has not received proper medical treatment,” North Las Vegas police spokeswoman Ann Cavaricci said Thursday. “Whether this is because the injured passenger is being coerced to not seek medical attention or is voluntarily avoiding medical treatment to protect Amin is unknown.”

Police announced Tuesday that Amin was the owner of the wrecked GMC Yukon that was left at the scene after the crash that killed 55-year-old Clay Stampley Sr., a father of seven, Saturday morning.

The Yukon was headed west on Cheyenne Avenue just after 5:20 a.m. when the vehicle ran a red light and slammed into Stampley’s Dodge Dakota as Stampley was driving it south on Simmons Street.

After the crash, police said the two people in the Yukon walked past Stampley, who had been ejected and was critically injured, and then ran away from the crash without trying to help him. Stampley later died at University Medical Center.

On Thursday, police said the crash was “very violent.”

“If you know the location of the passenger for this crash, call 911 and get immediate medical attention for him,” Cavaricci said. “Anyone who delays medical attention for the injured passenger or attempts to flee Las Vegas with him to seek medical attention elsewhere will be subject to criminal charges as well.”

Police are still looking for Amin, who has an address in North Las Vegas. Anyone who sees him or knows where he could be is urged to call the North Las Vegas Police Department at (702) 633-9111 or Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.

Stampley’s mother, Emma Stampley, said her son was on his way to work at Circus Circus, where he’d been an employee for 30 years, the morning he was hit and killed.

His great niece, Carmella Gadsen, 23, said after a vigil Sunday that Stampley was an “amazing father, and showed his sons how to be the same.”

“He’s the dad a lot of us wished we had,” Gadsen said.
