Nevada Department of Corrections names new deputy director

The Nevada Department of Corrections named a former state prison warden as its new deputy director of operations Friday.

The department announced Harold Wickham as its pick for the position, according to a release. He has served as the acting deputy director of operations since May. He assumes the title on Tuesday.

“Wickham has experience throughout our department managing a variety of institutions in both northern and southern Nevada,” department director James Dzurenda said in a statement. “He has a strong knowledge of our strengths as well as what we need to address, from a close, insider’s perspective.”

Wickham was the former warden of Warm Springs Correctional Center in Carson City. He had a 20-year military career before joining the corrections department in 2004, the release said.

He fills the void left by Quentin Byrne, who retired.

In his spare time, the release said, Wickham is a pilot and works with the Special Olympics.
