Police ID man who brought knife to Desert Oasis High School

The man arrested Thursday for allegedly threatening a female student with a knife at Desert Oasis High School has been identified as 18-year-old Eliu Esquivel Jr.

According to the arrest report, the victim told Las Vegas Metropolitan police that she had previously dated Esquivel, who is not a student.

The report said he pushed her toward a vending machine and demanded that she renew their relationship. He then pulled out a knife and threatened to kill the student’s friends and family if she did not agree to the relationship, according to the report. The student told police she managed to attend her first class, but Esquivel threatened to wait for her after school.

According to the report, Esquivel said during police questioning that a purple backpack containing the knife, an illegal firework and used paraphernalia for smoking marijuana, belonged to him.

The incident caused the school to be locked down for about 25 minutes Thursday morning.
