99 Words About … The historical shenanigans of ‘Reign’

The CW would cease to exist without love triangles.

Based on “Reign” (9 p.m. Thursday, KVCW-TV, Channel 33), teens’ romantic indecision dates back to at least 1557, when Mary, Queen of Scots (Adelaide Kane), made goo-goo eyes at a young man despite being engaged to his brother, Prince Francis of France.

There’s also someone lurking in the shadows, something creepy in the woods, lovely ladies-in-waiting, Nostradamus, pop songs, a beheading and the yes-that-(allegedly)-really-happened “bedding ceremony.”

“Reign” may not be great TV. But, aside from that tired love triangle, at least it offers something different in a dismal fall season.
