99 Words About … The naked ambition of reality shows

Naked is the new redneck.

Now that each of them seemingly has at least three backwoods reality shows, cable channels have moved on to the next big thing: obscured nudity.

“Naked and Afraid” (9 p.m. Sunday, Discovery), which is basically “Survivor in Your Birthday Suit,” kicked things off. TLC countered with the nudist real estate transactions of “Buying Naked.” VH1 ordered “Naked Dating.” And that doesn’t count the nonvoyeuristic body-painting series “Naked Vegas.”

For season two, “Naked and Afraid” even has its own after-show, “Naked After Dark.”

There’s no word on what, if anything, the panelists will be wearing.
