Artists honored at Celebrating Life!

The winners of the 12th annual Celebrating Life! juried fine art competition were announced in a May 25 ceremony at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St.

Sixty-seven works were selected for the juried exhibit out of the 231 works entered by Clark County artists 50 or older. Selected works are set to be on display through July 11 at the center.

Additional entries may be viewed in the Salon de Refusés, located inside the gallery at Charleston Heights Arts Center, through June 20. Award-winning pieces are due to be moved to the City Hall Chamber Gallery for a show scheduled July 26 through Sept. 6.

Awards were given for 25 works. Cash prizes of $250, $150 and $100 were awarded to first- through third-place winners in six categories.

This year's judges, Bill Leaf, Jim Pink and Mary Warner, selected Jeffrey Oldham's "Boys of Summer" to receive the Best of Show award of $500. Rita Deanin Abbey and Vicki Richardson were honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards. Nevada Healthcare Partners sponsored a $200 Golden Brush Award, selecting the painting "Forgotten" by Joani "Koelsch" Zingale as the winner. Other awards included:

Third place: Stewart Freshwater's "Amanda"

Honorable mention: Judi Rosenthal's "Shelf Life"

First place: Lincoln Maynard's "Mojave Sequence"

Second place: Lolita Develay's "Secrets to Tell"

Third place: Leslie Fox's "Shades of Zion"

Honorable mentions Rita Ramirez's "Appreciate Your Life" and Roseann Gilmore's "Fruit Seller"

Mixed Media

First place: JoAnn Stransky's "On the Job Site"

Second place: Mary Heinrichs' "Golden Artichokes"

Third place: Drina Fried's "Pillars of Creation"

Photography

First place: Robert Oberman's "Republican Debate"

Second place: "Michael Stillman Clark's "Life is a Carousel"

Third place: Vernon Rowlette's "Weathered"

Honorable mention: Kevin Buckley's "Back in the Day"

Sculpture

First place: Gail Seidner's "Cake Walk"

Second place: Rainer Bertrams' "Confessions of a Butterfly"

Third place: Shari Bray's "Earth Science"

Watercolor

First place: David Mazur's "Burros Gone Wild"
