Mayor Goodman, Commissioner Sisolak back on waving terms

Let’s call it a truce. It took place, fittingly, during the Veterans Days parade on Tuesday.

Mayor Carolyn Goodman and County Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak were waving at each other like long-lost friends.

It happened as Goodman, seated in a Elvis-esque pink convertible Cadillac with husband and former Mayor Oscar Goodman, passed the review stand where Sisolak and fellow Commissioner Susan Brager were among other dignitaries.

A week ago, the mayor and Sisolak were not exactly on waving terms.

Goodman accused Sisolak of having her disinvited to “Britney Day,” an event at The Linq to honor Planet Hollywood headliner Britney Spears for the success of her show, “Piece of Me.”

Sisolak countered that the event wasn’t in the mayor’s jurisdiction.

When I arrived at the review stand, Sisolak’s first words, in a lighthearted tone were, “No Britney, no mayor.” In other words, no controversy.

A few minutes into the parade, the Goodmans rolled past, and political harmony, at least on the surface, was restored.

Later, parade emcee Alan Stock of KDWN-radio, AM-720, told the crowd that Sisolak and Brager came up with the cash to make the parade happen.

Stock, during a break, told me he called Brager last month when it appeared a paperwork problem would prevent the parade organizers from getting a needed grant.

He said Brager and Sisolak came up with the money “out of their own pockets” to keep the event, often described the second-largest Veterans Parade in the U.S., alive.

MANZIEL’S NEW WINGMAN

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel has a new Las Vegas wingman.

He’s 4-foot-2 Donnie Davis, longtime emcee for Jeff Beacher’s Madhouse. The vaudeville-style show at the MGM Grand features little-people performers who impersonate pop celebrities.

Davis was spotted hanging out with Manziel during the former Heisman Trophy winner’s whirlwind trip to Las Vegas over the weekend.

Davis showed up in a video with Manziel partying in the wee hours at Drai’s Beach Club & Nightclub atop The Cromwell.

Other sightings had them at Beacher’s Madhouse (rumored to doing dress rehearsals for an all-new New Year’s Eve show), Crush restaurant at the MGM Grand and Hakkasan nightclub.

Manziel worked in the Las Vegas getaway during a long weekend, as the result of the Browns playing Thursday in Cincinnati.

The former Texas A&M star was in Fort Worth, Texas, taking in the TCU-Kansas State game with his on-again, off-again girlfriend, Colleen Crowley.

Manziel was with his boys on Sunday.

A first-round NFL draft pick in April, the heavily hyped Manziel has appeared in two games and thrown one pass, an incompletion. No carries.

Which explains why Johnny Football went to Cincinnati last weekend with a new nickname: Johnny Benched.

JOhN STUART’S BACK

I ran into John Stuart, creator and founder of the long-running “Legends in Concert,” on the review stand during the Veterans Day parade.

He’s been managing former “America’s Got Talent” Season 5 winner Michael Grimm since earlier this year.

Grimm sang the national anthem on Tuesday and teamed up with his wife, Lucie, for a stirring rendition of “America the Beautiful.”

Stuart, who lost ownership of “Legends” several years ago, has a new project on the Strip show.

He’s teamed up with Mark Green, the owner of Kahunaville at Treasure Island, on dinner show called “Island Heat.” It opened Saturday, with shows at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
