Every episode of ‘Friends’ is coming to Netflix, finally

LOS ANGELES - Netflix will stream all episodes of popular sitcom “Friends,” which ran for 10 seasons on NBC, to subscribers in the U.S. and Canada starting Jan. 1, 2015.

Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara, at Time Warner’s Investor Day on Wednesday, announced that the studio will license streaming rights to all 236 episodes of “Friends” to Netflix for the United States and Canada.

Series stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer as a group of 20-something pals living in Manhattan. The show was produced by Warner Bros. Television in association with Bright/Kauffman/Crane Prods.

News of the “Friends” licensing deal came about an hour after HBO CEO Richard Plepler at the same event announced the premium cabler’s plans to launch a standalone Internet-streaming service next year — a potentially major new competitor for Netflix.

Netflix touted the “Friends” pact via Twitter:
