Nationally, Mother’s Day is the busiest day of the year for restaurants and that’s certainly the case in Las Vegas, with many announcing special menus. You’d be wise to make reservations so Mom isn’t disappointed.
As you gracefully sweep through life, leaving wistful, admiring gazes in your wake, what scent do you want them to remember? Something floral, perhaps? Or maybe spicy? Or — wait! How about bacon?
There are those of us who firmly believe Elvis Presley is alive and well and working as an Elvis impersonator, and it seems we’ve found a kindred spirit in Branden Powers, co-owner of The Golden Tiki at 3939 Spring Mountain Road. Powers — who’s never been one to shy away from a good story — was in a local dive bar in February when he encountered a singer whose physical and vocal resemblance to The King were uncanny, according to Powers. But you be the judge. “Cocktails with The King” will feature this performer from 2-6 p.m. Saturdays starting this weekend at The Golden Tiki. Happy hour specials include $5 mai tais, and other drinks and food for half price. For the record: Elvis would be more than 80 years old, but who knows? Maybe he cleaned up his act and is remarkably well preserved.
Beer Park at Paris Las Vegas has expanded its menu with dishes featuring meats cooked on the restaurant’s outdoor smoker.
Jamie Tran, chef/partner of The Black Sheep, has said the restaurant’s name came from her rebellious nature — even though she’s the only one of nine siblings to become a chef like her father. Mr. Tran, your daughter’s doing you proud.
We’d heard that things were changing at the Boulevard Mall, but we didn’t know how much they were changing until we dined at Olivia’s Mexican Restaurant.
It seems 2016 has barely started but already it’s flying by. Mardi Gras is coming up Tuesday, although the parades and other celebrations start well before the actual day — on Jan. 6, or Twelfth Night, the 12th day of Christmas.
They snagged me with the promise of prime rib carved tableside, but it didn’t work out that way.
