BOULDER CITY ANNUAL DAMBOREE CELEBRATION

Boulder City is scheduled to host its 67th annual Damboree Celebration starting at 7 a.m. July 4.

The event started as a way to gather funds for fireworks, according to Patricia Sullivan, recreation program coordinator.

“It started with a beauty contest. The ladies in the beauty contest helped raise the funds to pay for the firework show,” she said. “Shortly after, the parade started, and then the activities in the parks developed.”

The daylong event is scheduled to start with a pancake breakfast at Bicentennial Park, 1100 Colorado St.

A flyover by the Boulder City Veterans Flying Group is scheduled at 9 a.m. to kick off a parade, which is set to start at Colorado Street, head down Nevada Highway to Fifth Street and end at Sixth Street and Avenue B.

Games, food and entertainment are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Broadbent Memorial Park, 1301 Fifth St.

Festivities from 6 to 11 p.m. are set to be moved to Veterans Memorial Park, 1650 Buchanan Blvd., with a 20- to 30-minute fireworks show scheduled for 9 p.m.

“We typically have about 8,000 to 10,000 people watch the fireworks in the area,” Sullivan said. “What’s so phenomenal about the fireworks is that you’re so close that you feel like they’re right on top of you.”

No personal fireworks, pets or glass containers are allowed in the parks. Sullivan recommend that people be prepared for hot weather. Visit bcnv.org/351/damboree-celebration.
