Imagine Dragons to play a concert on a flight from Las Vegas

Southwest Airlines is taking Las Vegas indie rock band Imagine Dragons to new heights.

The Dallas-based airline, the busiest commercial carrier at McCarran International Airport, will host a concert on a flight between Las Vegas and Atlanta as part of a promotion for the release of the band’s new album on Feb. 17.

In a partnership that was announced Monday, Southwest will fly the band to four cities that hold a special place in the band’s history, presenting concerts in Los Angeles on Feb. 20, Salt Lake City on Feb. 21, Las Vegas on Feb. 23 and Atlanta on Feb. 25. When the band flies from Las Vegas to Atlanta, it will perform a “Live at 35” concert at 35,000 feet in what is being called “Southwest’s Ultimate Destination Dragons Flight.”

The airline has planned a contest for one winner and three friends to join the band on the tour, flying winners to the Las Vegas concert, accompanying the band on the Atlanta flight and seats to the Atlanta concert.

The contest runs Feb. 3-16 with entry details on Southwest’s website.

The Imagine Dragons debut its “Smoke + Mirrors” album on Feb. 17 and it will be offered on Wi-Fi-enabled Southwest flights on the airline’s inflight entertainment portal.

“Smoke + Mirrors” is a follow-up to the band’s multiplatinum 2012 debut album, “Night Visions.” The band has sold more than 24 million tracks worldwide.
