In Case You Missed It: The most realistic finger painting ever?

You know the saying, “I’ll believe it when I see it,” but in this case seeing a portrait painted by artist Kyle Lambert of actor Morgan Freeman actually makes it harder to believe.

Lambert painted the “photorealistic portrait” of Freeman using three things:

  1. His finger
  2. An iPad Air
  3. The Procreate app

And the final product is truly unbelieveable.

Lambert used a photograph originally shot by photographer Scott Gries as his inspiration, then started with a blank white screen and went to town.

“I recently discovered that it was possible to create incredibly high resolution (4k) paintings using only my iPad,” Lambert said on his website. “And I wanted to see just how far I could push digital artwork.”

Lambert crams more than 200 hours and some 285,000 brush strokes into a three-minute time-lapse video for your viewing pleasure.

“I was spending 9-10 hours some days if a certain area I was working on was complicated,” Lambert told ninemsn.com.

Of course he has his skeptics, but simply explains he started painting the broad strokes with his finger, then “reduced the brush size to a few pixels, pinched to zoom and carefully painted in the fine detail.”

One awestruck YouTube commenter said, “This is incredible! I can only draw smiley faces.”

Yep. That about sums it up.
