Jo Koy no longer has to rent Huntridge Theater to perform
October 31, 2013 - 10:39 pm
The group out to save the Huntridge Theater should get to know comedian Jo Koy, who launched his career at the historic Las Vegas venue.
When Koy was an aspiring Las Vegas comedian in the 1990s, he would rent out the city’s original neighborhood theater and sell tickets to his shows for $7. “I had a ton of friends. I worked at so many casinos and everyone knew I was funny, I knew I could get them to come,” he recalled earlier this year.
Koy, now better known as a stand-up headliner and “Chelsea Lately” panelist, returns to the Mystere Theater at Treasure Island today.
Las Vegas, he says, is “what molded me. This is what made me a comic, this is where I started my life. This is where I became myself.”
