Michelle Obama to appear on ‘Late Show with Stephen Colbert’

LOS ANGELES — "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" has added another political player to its guest list: first lady Michelle Obama will join the new CBS late-night show on Sept. 28.

"It's always an honor to have the first lady," said host Stephen Colbert. "Better than that, it's always fun!"

Obama will highlight Let Girls Learn, an initiative she launched with President Barack Obama that champions community-driven solutions and public-private partnerships to help reduce the barriers that prevent adolescent girls from achieving their full potential.

She will also highlight her Reach Higher initiative, an effort to inspire every student in America to take charge of their future by completing their higher education, whether at a professional training program, a community college or a four-year college or university. This initiative aims to rally the country around the importance of post-secondary education by exposing students to college and career opportunities, making financial aid and college affordability a reality, and inspiring and supporting academic and summer planning.

Obama is no stranger to the late-night circuit. Past visits have included an appearance on Colbert's former Comedy Central show to talk military families and visits to both of Jimmy Fallon's NBC shows to school him on the art of "mom dancing."

The timing of this guest booking is key for the new "Late Show": This episode will air opposite Trevor Noah's first night as the host of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show."
