What’s the difference between Alice Cooper and Vincent Furnier, the 66-year-old who has portrayed the shock rocker for five decades?
“Alice hates technology, disco is still a nightmare for him and working in a cubicle from 9 to 5 would give him cold sweats,” Cooper, err, Furnier, is quoted as saying on his website.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Furnier has become a substantially more domesticated presence, a golfer, restaurateur and born-again Christian who fits right in with the modern American society that Cooper continues to rail against in song.
It’s not a contradiction so much as a way to rationalize two competing impulses: the need to vent and the need to eat.
