Country singer Eddie Montgomery’s son dies in accident

Country star Eddie Montgomery's 19-year-old son died Sunday following an accident.

The singer, half of the duo Montgomery Gentry, did not disclose details of the accident, but he said the incident left his son, Hunter, on life support at a Kentucky hospital.

"My son Hunter went to heaven today," Montgomery said in a statement. "I appreciate all your prayers and love and thank you for giving us privacy as we grieve and say goodbye."

Montgomery and Troy Gentry released their first album as a duo, "Tattoos & Scars," in 1999.

On Sunday, condolences were offered via the band's Twitter account: "Our sincerest love, thoughts and prayers are with Eddie today."
