Mesquite to take on jazz vibe this weekend

Bert and Rose Marie Barr travel the world playing jazz in Uptown Lowdown. The Bellevue, Wash., band is among those featured this weekend during the inaugural Mesquite Jazz Festival at the CasaBlanca Resort in Mesquite.

The festival will include 40-minute sets starting at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the CasaBlanca Showroom, opening with Sally's Jazznuts Band, followed by the Titanic Jazz Band, the Uptown Lowdown and the Reynolds Brothers Rhythm Rascals. Forty-five-minute sets begin with the same bands at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Uptown Lowdown explores the history of jazz beginning at 10 a.m., with music presented by other groups throughout the day and ending at about 11 p.m.

The Grand Finale on Sunday includes a Gospel Hour starting at 9 a.m.
