Neon Reverb music fest lineup includes nearly 100 performers at seven venues

What do food trucks and a film fest have in common?

Absolutely nothing.

Which is why both are fitting additions to the latest installment of the twice-yearly Neon Reverb music festival, which is all about making connections between seemingly unrelated bands, venues, events and crowds.

The music lineup is vast, disparate and decidedly heterogeneous: Everything from prog rock to folk to hip-hop acts will be among the nearly 100 performers who will take the stage at seven different venues across town over the next three days.

This go-round, an art show at PWC Gallery (1221 Main St.), has been added to the festivities, running until the end of the month, as well as the aforementioned food trucks in the El Cortez Promenade and more.

But of course, it all begins and ends with the music, with the emphasis on showcasing the rising national and local independent bands of tomorrow right now.

You can check out the full roster of shows at www.neonreverb.com, but in the meantime, here are a few gigs that you don't want to miss:

Dodos, midnight Friday, Bunkhouse. The Dodos are just two dudes, who, on their latest release, often sound like a lot more: Amping up their once skeletal folk with touches of electric, rock-god guitar, the duo proves themselves to be birds of a different feather. Don't worry, they're not nearly as lame as our puns. Also, be sure to catch Vegas' coed Dusty Sunshine brightening the night air outside the Bunkhouse earlier in the evening at 10 p.m.

Asobi Seku, midnight. Saturday, Bunkhouse. You know how you feel after a trip to the dentist, when your face is all numb with novocaine and your flesh seems like a stranger's? Well, that's the sensation that Asobi Seku attempts to re-create with their anesthetizing guitar buzz, which often comes intertwined with singer/keyboardist Yuki Chikudate's dreamy, heavenward sighs on the mic. Vegas' Twin Brother (9 p.m.) and San Diego's Tape Deck Mountain (1 a.m.) also bring the noise, literally.

Wallpaper, 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Beauty Bar (517 Fremont St.). There are a few staples of the Neon Reverb experience: big lineups, bigger bar tabs, enough hipsters to populate a small European country (Luxembourg, perhaps?) and a sweaty Saturday night dance party at the Beauty Bar. Once again, Vegas' art pop politicos Pan de Sal will be leading the crowd in some sweet synchronized dance moves at 12:15 a.m. They'll be joined outside on the patio by hot-and-bothered electro subvert Wallpaper, who comes armed with plenty of zig-zagging bass lines and party-till-you puke boosterism, and local disco revisionists GoldBoot (10:30 p.m.).

The Tellers, 5 p.m. Sunday, Royal Resort (90 Convention Center Drive). They say that Belgium -- a land where the mountains are made of chocolate and rivers flow with delicious wheat beer -- boasts among the highest standards of living in the world. Perhaps that's why The Tellers sound so charmed: Their whimsical pop is fashioned from lots of honeyed harmonies and even more smiles. They're playing the Neon Reverb pool party on Sunday afternoon, where their tunes likely will seem every bit as bright and warm as the sun beating down from above.
