New Order, playing Cosmo pool, still relevant
April 5, 2013 - 1:05 am

British musician Phil Cunningham of New Order performs onstage at Hyde Park in central London in August. The band is scheduled to play in Las Vegas on Thursday.
New Order’s songs may be gone from the mainstream airwaves but their sound certainly isn’t.
Beginning in the early ’80s, the pioneering Brit synth pop group adroitly interwove electronic music flourishes into brooding, ashen alt-rock.
To this day, you still hear the band’s influence in popular contemporary acts, from Vegas’ own The Killers to Tegan and Sara’s dance floor-friendly new album “Heartthrob.”
In January, New Order released “Lost Sirens,” an album of bonus cuts from 2005’s “Waiting for the Sirens’ Call.” Even these leftovers sound relevant, beginning with album opener “I’ll Stay With You,” which does just that.
