Protest the Hero favors pretty much everything over-the-top as they offer a modern metal take on prog rock to the all-ages set. Their new disc, "Scurrilous," is equally anthemic and ambitious and thankfully not nearly as nerdy as Coheed and Cambria's catalog.

See the band at 5 p.m. Thursday at Count's Vamp'd, 6750 W. Sahara Ave. Tickets are $15; call 220-8849.
