Santana signs two-year deal at House of Blues

Las Vegans have had plenty of chances to see Carlos Santana, but never before while eating a steak but a few feet from the stage as the guitarist's fingers race across his instrument like they were being chased by famished wolves.

This will all change come May 2 at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay, where Santana will kick off a two-year residency at the venue.

Santana completed a two-year stint at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel last year, but the House of Blues is a more intimate space, about half the size of the 4,000 capacity Joint.

As such, this Vegas run for the iconic six-stringer will be a more up-close and personal experience for fans. The venue will be reconfigured for Santana shows, with special features like side-stage dining options available.

Santana, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame whom Rolling Stone magazine ranked No. 15 on its list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time in 2003, has won 10 Grammy Awards and has sold tens of millions of records with his Latin-influenced, highly percussive rock.

He remains a solid live draw, particularly overseas.

In addition to dates in May, Santana's upcoming House of Blues residency will extend into June before returning in September and continuing throughout the rest of the year and into 2013.

Tickets for the shows go on sale at 10 a.m. March 3 at the House of Blues box office and Ticketmaster outlets.
