Sole styling rhymes at The Bunkhouse

“At the end of the world as we know it, I’m feeling fine,” indie hip-hop firebrand Sole (Tim Holland) announces on his latest disc, “No Wising Up No Settling Down.”

Holland should be in strong spirits.

A true DIY artist without a record label, management or publicist, he maintains full control over his career, allowing him to scratch every creative itch until it bleeds.

He does so with little inhibition on “No Wising Up,” where his breathless, often panicked-sounding rhymes are buttressed by sounds suggestive of short-circuiting electronics, Spaghetti Western scores and trap music menace.

“A little bit of style don’t hurt,” Holland informs on the album’s first cut.

The same can’t said of his hard-hitting social commentary, which is capable of leaving bruises.
