Spend an evening with Yanni

The billing reads "An Evening With Yanni."

But the peripatetic composer and musician seldom travels alone.

For proof, check out the lineup for Yanni's current 2012 tour, which stops tonight at UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center.

At a recent performance, the entourage totaled more than a dozen instrumentalists and two vocalists. Drummer Charlie Adams has been with Yanni almost three decades.

Also joining the concert lineup: violinists Mary Simpson and Samuel Yervinyan , vocalists Lauren Jelecovich and Lisa Lavie, harpist Victor Espinola and keyboard artist Ming Freeman.

And speaking of keyboards, let's not forget Yanni himself, who plays two keyboards - and conducts his fellow musicians - during the concert. That is, when he's not seated at his grand piano.

Yanni's North American trek, which began in Florida in mid-April, features new tunes from his latest studio album, "Truth of Touch," along with new versions of old favorites from his "Live at the Acropolis," "Tribute" and "Dare to Dream" albums.

With more than 300 songs written, 20 million albums sold - and millions of fans around the world - the 57-year-old Yanni (born Yiannis Chrysomallis ) in Greece, would seem to have little left to prove.

But "I think this is the best show I have done yet," Yanni told the Deseret News earlier this month, before the tour's Salt Lake City stop.

Not that he's doing it alone.
