Flamingo Las Vegas’ Go Pool has contests, other events to boost fun factor

We don't claim that it's scientific, but one of the measures of a great pool party can be seen in the number of guests who are willing to put down their drinks, put aside their egos and jump into the pool for a raft race.

And, by that measure, Go Pool at the Flamingo Las Vegas qualifies as a great pool party, as well as, perhaps, the least pretentious dayclub in town.

Dan Mykovich, the Flamingo's food and beverage director, says Go Pool's staff is key to creating the party's fun, high-energy vibe.

For instance, the staff isn't averse to organizing hula hoop competitions, limbo contests (with bar tabs as prizes) and other events designed to encourage guests to mingle.

Similarly, Go Pool's DJs -- who play daily from noon to 6 p.m. -- "are out there working the crowd, taking requests, doing 'Happy Birthday' to people or just adding to the vibe," he says.

Even some of the expected dayclub amenities are given a fun twist at Go Pool. For example, Mykovich says, "we have go-go girls who are actually inside the pool, dancing on platforms. It helps with the atmosphere, and it's just a fun experience."

The point, Mykovich says, is to offer guests a range of entertainment options, from relaxing in a lounge chair with a drink to meeting fellow guests in novel ways.

"We have something going on almost every hour," he adds. "You can participate or sit down or get involved and talk to neighbors."

And if Go Pool had a motto, it would probably be "expect the unexpected," Mykovich says, because of the celebrity guests -- George Wallace, Donny Osmond, Angel Porrino last weekend and Holly Madison this weekend -- who might stop by.

Go Pool offers guests more than three dozen cabanas and daybeds starting at about $300 for the former and $175 for the latter. Food, delivered by runners, and drinks are available, including adult freeze pops in flavors such as mojito and pina colada for $5 each.

Go Pool at the Flamingo Las Vegas, 3555 Las Vegas Blvd. South, is open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free for hotel guests, $15 for guests of sister Caesars properties, and $20 for everybody else.
