Sway Pool at Silverton keeps it relaxed, affordable

If you want a no-frills dayclub experience -- and a price to match it -- check out Sway Pool and Lounge at the Silverton, 3333 Blue Diamond Road.

The atmosphere is laid-back and relaxing, says Tanya Morgan, Silverton's director of entertainment and special events. Twice a month, the pool is the site of Bikinis, Bands and Burgers, the hotel's summer concert series. Real Big Fish is scheduled to play Sept. 3 and Marcy Playground on Sept. 9.

The concert series, which was launched last year as Bikinis and BBQ, has been popular, Morgan says.

"Locals have embraced it," Morgan says. "I think we're kind of a diamond in the rough. We have a lot of guests who haven't been to the property in a while, and when they come back, they're impressed."

So far this summer, Sway has hosted a reggae series. Last year, they did local talent and garage bands.

September will be a nostalgic '90s theme.

On holidays, a DJ spins music. The next DJ is scheduled for Labor Day.

On other days, the pool is just a place to chill out and have a few drinks. The area can accommodate about 75 to 100, and though the pool is small, it reaches depths of up to 6 feet.

This summer marks the Silverton's second year to host a pool party. The area was renovated in 2009.

Six cabanas were added, the pool was redesigned and $100,000 in landscaping was installed, giving the area a tropical feel.

Cabanas cost $25 during the week and $50 to $100 on Saturdays and $50 on Sundays. Bottle service is available and starts at $50.

Lounge chairs are complimentary and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Sway Lounge is open to locals 21 and older; admission is free, Morgan says. Children are allowed if they're a hotel guest.

The pool is open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. There is no cover charge for locals and hotel guests.
