Crooning is timeless with Jack Jones
November 20, 2014 - 10:48 pm
In 1965, Jack Jones’ recording of “And I Love Her” was one of several efforts by crooners to translate the Beatles for older listeners.
The interesting part? Jones, now 76, is only four years older than Paul McCartney. Like Paul Anka, Jones was one of the last guys to get established with traditional crooning. His signature hit “Wives and Lovers” was in 1963, a year before the British invasion.
If you don’t know “Lollipops and Roses” or “Lady,” maybe you can talk him into a reprise of “The Love Boat” theme.
Jones has played Las Vegas since he was 19, sharing the Thunderbird stage with his movie star and singing dad Allan Jones. He recorded “Live at the Sands” in 1970. In the 1990s he starred in “Guys &Dolls” at the Desert Inn and has been visiting the Suncoast since at least 2002.
