Even Chumlee’s approval can’t save ‘Pawn Shop Live!’

“Pawn Shop Live!” has struck out on the Strip.

The reality-TV parody will close Aug. 24, at the Riviera’s Starlite Theatre, a little more than a month after a revamped version of the show, “Pawn Shop Live! — The Lost Episode,” made its debut at the Riviera July 14.

The initial “Pawn Shop Live,” which opened at the Riviera April 21, moved to the Strip from downtown’s Golden Nugget, where the spoof originated.

Unlike some parodies, however, this one had the approval of its targets.

“Pawn Stars” star Rick Harrison became an investor and, eventually, executive producer, of the day-in-the-life comedy following the TV show’s central characters, who also include Corey Harrison, Richard “The Old Man” Harrison and Austin “Chumlee” Russell.

The original “Pawn Shop Live,” produced by local Derek Stonebarger and co-written and directed by another Las Vegan, Troy Heard, featured actors and dancers — not to mention a puppet.

In July, a reworked version of the show — written by actor-comedian Howie Gold — toned down the spoofery to focus more on the inner workings of Gold & Silver Pawn, the focus of the “Pawn Stars” TV show .

“Since it’s no longer a parody, it’s more authentic to our personalities,” Harrison commented in a news release at the time, “and funnier too.”

But, apparently, not funny enough.
