Six Picks: Our experts pick their favorites for Aug. 16-22

Rita Rudner

Calm, classy, soft-spoken and unerringly rational. How did Rita Rudner become a mainstay on the Las Vegas Strip? The comedian who owned this town in the 2000s returns to The Venetian on Tuesday to school some husbands. Tickets are $59-$109 for the 8:30 p.m. show; call 702-414-9000.

— Mike Weatherford

Primitive Man

Denver doom misanthropes Primitive Man lumber forth with riffs as thick as their namesake’s forehead. Unleash your inner caveman at 9 p.m. Tuesday at The Dive Bar, 4110 S. Maryland Parkway. Tickets are $6; call 702-586-3483.

— Jason Bracelin

‘The Goonies’

If they’re “Good Enough” for Cyndi Lauper, they’re good enough for you. See Chunk, Sloth and a frighteningly young Josh Brolin in “The Goonies” as part of the Outdoor Picture Show at The District in Henderson. The free screening starts at 8 p.m. Saturday on The Green.

— Christopher Lawrence

Buddy Guy

When it comes to blues guitar, nobody plays like five-time Grammy winner Buddy Guy, a 2012 Kennedy Center honoree. Except, perhaps, for 14-year-old Quinn Sullivan, who shares the bill with the guitar master at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, 361 Symphony Park Ave. For tickets ($29-$89), call 702-749-2000 or visit
www.thesmithcenter.com.

Beer fest

You can scream for ice cream almost anywhere, but if you want to cheer for beer, you can do it at the Public House’s aptly named Cheer for Beer Festival from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the bar and restaurant at The Venetian, 3355 Las Vegas Blvd. South. For $29 per person (plus tax), participants get to spend the three hours sampling from among 50 beers from around the world. Food will be sold separately.

Hardwell

The great Dutch DJ Hardwell returns to the MGM this weekend to perform Friday at Hakkasan nightclub, then Saturday at Wet Republic day pool. The creator of “Spaceman,” “Apollo” and the new “Jumper,” Hardwell will be getting ready to record a new episode of his popular music podcast (at DJHardwell.com).
