5 things we wish Apple would have announced yesterday
September 10, 2015 - 2:51 pm
Apple announced some pretty cool stuff at its big event on Wednesday, like the massive iPad Pro and force-touch technology for the iPhone S and iPhone 6S Plus. And Apple fans will finally get to ditch the 8-megapixel camera they've been complaining about for years. But tech junkies are never happy with what they're given, so here are five things we wish Apple would have announced yesterday:
One charger to rule them all
Apple is mean. After years of stability, they've taken to changing the chargers for either the MacBook Pro or the iPhone like every other product cycle, leaving Apple users with bundles of now-useless white cords. Stability within one product line would be great, but why not take it a step further by creating a charger that will work with any Apple product?
A real Apple TV
The improvements to the AppleTV were actually pretty cool, but weren't game-changing. Being able to use Siri to browse Netflix, Hulu and a number of other streaming services all at once will be a big improvement over the current situation, but that's something already familiar to Android users. But as any Apple fan knows, the power of Apple lies in the seamless relationship between its hardware and software. We won't see what Apple is truly capable of until the company starts producing an actual TV, not just a set-top box.
A way to mark texts as unread
Not even a new product, just a fix for a problem a lot of us face every day. Sometimes you want to be able to read a full text without having to respond right then, but without that badge app icon it's difficult to remember you haven't responded to someone yet. The easiest fix would be the same "mark unread" option we see in our email every day.
A smarter smartphone
The new iPhone is cool, admittedly. It has some nice functionality, some of which is old hat for android users and some of which will blow the Galaxy line out of the water. But we can do better. We still haven't even managed proper multitasking capabilities on a screen that's almost the size of an iPad Mini (and no, Samsung hasn't, either).
A fix for the pinwheel of death
There's nothing worse than clicking to a new tab on Safari and being stuck staring at the pinwheel of death for two minutes while Safari decides whether or not it wants to respond. Come on, Apple. Aren't you better than that?
