Barbecue benefits Opportunity Village

The 18th Annual Miss Kitty's Jeans to Jewels Gala was Sept. 11 at Bonnie and Frank Martin's Bitter Root Ranch. The honorary hostess, Kitty Rodman, was unable to attend.
This is the premier backyard barbecue of the year, and it benefits Opportunity Village, which serves people with intellectual disabilities.
The event's food was served up from BOA Steakhouse, Station Casinos, Sushi Roku, Memphis Barbecue, Slider Truck and Hard Rock Cafe.
The Roundup included guests Ellie and Frank Shattuck, Dee and Ken Ladd, Bob and Melinda Brown, Garry Goett, UNLV President Neal Smatresk, Jean Hertzman, Michele Johnston, Amanda Flangas, Glenus and Bob Cooper, Donna Hash, Pattie Stanbaugh, Stephen Miller, Christy and Bob Johnson, David Carney, Chuck Brennan, Geena Mattox, Linda Smith and Ed and Sheral Guthrie.
Chuck Brennan, founder and chief executive officer of DLC Empire, presented Opportunity Village with a $15,000 check from his "The Heat Is On" promotion, and Bob McDonald, representing U.S. Sen. John Ensign's A Hand Up Foundation, presented a check for $13,000.
CATHOLIC CHARITIES EVENT: Master Chef Gustav Mauler hosted an outdoor wine soiree at his Spiedini Italian Ristorante on Sept. 17 for Catholic Charities to raise funds .
The silent auction proceeds will benefit their 24 programs, including Meals on Wheels.
Guests, including Terri and Tom Eden, Carolyn Leontos, Joyce and Steve Schneider, Jeanne and John Kilduff, Ed Skoniciki, and Tom Warden were welcomed by Monsignor Patrick Leary, Catholic Charities executive director, and Denise Mauler, Catholic Charities president.
All enjoyed artisan cheeses and assorted culinary delights as Monsignor Kevin McAuliffe, pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, entertained at the grand piano.
Seen among the guests were Rene O'Reilly, Christian Kolberg, Brian Land, Frank Martin, Commissioner Larry Brown, Clark County School Board President Terri Janison, the Rev. Marc Howes, pastor of St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Catholic Church, and Patricia Falvey, director of endowment fundraising for Catholic Charities.
