OAKEY BOULEVARD STORM DRAIN PROJECT TO CAUSE LANE CLOSURES

Oakey Boulevard is scheduled to be closed to through traffic at the east side of Decatur Boulevard through mid-July as storm drain installation continues, according to the city of Las Vegas.

Suggested alternate routes for east-west travel are Sahara Avenue and Charleston Boulevard. Jones and Valley View boulevards are suggested as alternate routes for north-south travel.

Oakey is slated to remain open to Decatur on the west leg of the intersection. Northbound and southbound traffic on Decatur will continue to be open to motorists, and access to businesses will be maintained, the city said.

The $29 million storm drain installation project began March 29 and is expected to be completed in 18 months.

The project includes the installation of approximately 5,400 linear feet of reinforced concrete box storm drain and 2,700 linear feet of reinforced concrete pipe storm drain laterals; 1,400 linear feet of sewer line relocation; removal and relocation of water lines and manholes; landscape removal and repair; and excavation and paving along Decatur from Charleston to Sahara. Roughly 12,800 linear feet of sanitary sewer pipeline and 44 manholes are being rehabilitated along Oakey from Rainbow to Martin Luther King boulevards.

Some work also is planned on Valley View Boulevard between Bonanza Road and Washington. Decatur and Rancho are recommended as alternative routes.

Preliminary work on the project was completed last year and consisted of improvements to sidewalks to meet federal Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.

Vehicle lanes are scheduled to be reconfigured, and bicycle lanes will be installed on Washington and Valley View.
