Two kids are safe thanks to the quick actions of a deputy sheriff in Hawaii last Friday when the 2-year-old and 5-month-old got locked in a hot car.
And the rescue was caught on video.
According to KITV, the mother had left the keys in the car when she got out to put money in the parking meter and one of the kids locked the car from the inside.
The mother panicked and did everything she could think of to get the car open, but didn’t want to leave to get help.
“She frantically made every effort to get the car open, but didn’t want to leave her children,” Toni Schwartz, public information officer, Dept. of Public Safety, told KHON in a statement.
The mother was able to flag down a bystander for help, and that’s when Deputy Sheriff Grant Auna came to the rescue.
“The kids were sweating profusely and we were worried about the safety of the children, so we asked her if it was OK for us to break open the window to get the kids out for safety purposes,” Auna told KHON.
It took Auna several tries with a sledgehammer to break the window. Firefighters who arrived on the scene determined that the two kids were unharmed.
According to the Huffington Post, the mother was not charged with any crime due to the incident being an accident.
