Wear this, Not that
Tom Julian whisked through Las Vegas recently to sign copies of his book, "Nordstrom Guide to Men's Style." While here, he offered his take on men's fall fashion for '09 and in doing so, selected his five must-haves for the season. Rather than simply provide pieces to add to your wardrobe, Julian also has chosen five must-lose items. Take a look at the pieces you should put in -- and take out -- of your closet.
MUST-HAVE
1. Two-button blazer with center or side vent. Everything is downsizing; even your buttons.
2. Dark denim boot cut jean. Boot cut for men merely implies room for your Chelsea boots. Skinny, but not too skinny.
3. Long-sleeved V-neck. When the layering trend kicks in, this will be your new staple.
4. Lace-up suede wing tip shoes. The suede lends texture and the wing tips are a cool throw back.
5. Flat-front textured vintage stripe pants. You'll feel "dandy" in a pair of these.
MUST-LOSE
1. Three-button jacket/blazer. If it hasn't been on the cover of GQ for a good two years, ditch it.
2. Relaxed fit jean. If your girlfriend is on top of women's trends, than she's likely stolen your last pair, anyway.
3. Long-sleeved polo sweater. Give it to your father-in-law to wrap around his shoulders at the country club.
4. Square toe shoes. Square is for squares. Everything is on point now.
5. Pleated heavy-weight wool dress pants. Unless your favorite pastime involves grandchildren and Werther's Originals, don't do it.
